举一个例子。《约翰福音》记载：“犹太人的逾越节近了，耶稣就上耶路撒冷去。（The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.） 看见殿里有卖牛羊鸽子的，并有兑换银钱的人，坐在那里。（In the temple he found people selling cattle，sheep，and doves，and the money changers seated at their tables.）耶稣就拿绳子作成鞭子，把牛羊都赶出殿去。倒出兑换银钱之人的银钱，推翻他们的桌子。（Making a whip of coeds, he drove all of them out of the temple, both the sheep and the cattle. He also poured out the coins of the money changers and overturn their tables.）又对卖鸽子的说，把这些东西拿去。不要将我父的殿，当作买卖的地方。（He told those who were selling the doves, ’Take these things out of here! Stop making my Father’s house a marketplace!’）他的门徒就想起经上记着说，我为你的殿，心里焦急，如同火烧。（His disciples remembered that it was written, Zeal for your house will consume me.）因此，犹太人问他说，你既作这些事，还显什么神迹给我们看呢。（The Jews said then to him, What sign can you show us for doing this?）耶稣回答说，你们拆毁这殿，我三日内要再建立起来。（Jesus answered them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.） 犹太人便说，这殿是四十六年才造成的，你三日内就再建立起来吗。（The Jews then said, This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and will you raise it up in three days?）但耶稣这话，是以他的身体为殿。（But he was speaking of the temple of his body.）所以到他从死里复活以后，门徒就想起他说过这话，便信了圣经和耶稣所说的。（After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this; and they believed the scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.《约翰福音：2：13-22》）”
“一个人不能侍奉两个主。不是恶这个爱那个，就是重这个轻那个。你们不能又侍奉神，又侍奉玛门。（No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.《马太福音：6：24》）”
